Background

The client, a landfill operator, faced the challenge of managing RO/evaporator leachate concentrate in a cost-effective and compliant manner. This highly problematic sludge, generated as a by-product of reverse osmosis and evaporation, was extremely difficult to dewater due to its high solids concentration (approx. 34% TS, 12,8% SS) and elevated inorganic salt content (30–50%).

Installation details

Following a pilot test, the VOLUTE™ FS proved to be the optimal dewatering solution, consistently achieving a sludge cake of up to 40% DS. This performance ensures maximum volume reduction and delivers a strong OPEX benefit thanks to low energy consumption and significantly lower chemical demand than initially expected. The VOLUTE™ FS thus represents a reliable and cost-effective solution that fully meets all technical and regulatory requirements.
