VOLUTETM technology is a solution to many industries producing various types of wastewater and sludge. AMCON team is able to adjust the unit according to customer’s requirement; and therefore it meets the needs of almost any industrial sludge dewatering equipment from food processing through paper industry to chemical sludges. This issue is about to discuss the industrial solid-liquid separation. |

What Extras Can We Offer to You? |
|
| AMCON’s modern technology is perfectly suitable for municipal and industrial sludge treatment. We have a wide range of models to fit the most common customer requirements. Nevertheless, there are times a customer requires a special sludge dewatering solution. We fully understand that dewatering process asks for a complex solution which needs to be customized, therefore, we are very familiar with modifications of any kind.Based on a pilot test results and special inquiries, our engineers are able to recommend the right modification for the best sludge treatment to a particular customer. |

|
What are the problematic situations we have already found a solution to? - Extreme weather conditions (too hot, freezing weather)
- Certified modification for areas with a risk of explosion
- Difficult sludge characteristic (oil, high fiber content, stickiness, unpleasant odor,…)
- Odorproof units
- Cylinders and rings modification
- Dimension alterations
- And others
Hereby, we start a series of articles discussing VOLUTE’s possible adjustments in the couple of next Newsletters. Watch us to learn more!Markéta Papežová Marketing Specialist, Amcon Europe s.r.o. |

In the summer of 2018, the CEO and owner of a smaller family business Mlékárna Polná s.r.o., Miloš Kvasnička contacted AMCON Europe to provide him with assistance in solving a problematic issue regarding lack of efficiency of their WWTP, which is the company’s integral part. |

This biological WWTP consists of a circulating oxidation ditch and a classical (square ground plan) settling tank. Wastewater is oxidized on the basis of surface aeration in the oxidation ditch by means of floating paddle wheel aerators – their rotating blades produce strong, horizontal action of mixing dissolved oxygen with liquid through the mist created by the paddle. Please note this technology is one of the old-fashioned ones. The problem was evaluated as critical – in a dire need of good dewatering equipment. High temperatures caused insufficient wastewater oxygenation that year; and the entire WWTP system had become overloaded and collapsed. Causing: - Waste activated sludge accumulation
- Ineffective oxygenization by aerators
- Occurrance of anaerobic processes in the tank
- Rotten sludge in the circulation ditch
- Sludge leakage from the settling tank
- Risk of high fines

The dairy had temporarily rented a dewatering press VOLUTE ES-131 together with a liquid based flocculant YESfloc® COEX88 supplied by CHEM.ENGI and started immediate sludge dewatering process. Results: - Pumping sludge directly from activation tank had reduced its amount in the system
- Wastewater got back its light/white color (typical for milk processing industry)
- The sludge got back its original structure
- No sludge leaking from the settling tank
- Parameters of filtrate meets the authority requirements for being released to local recipient
- No threat of high fines
Having had improved the entire wastewater management in a very short time, the dairy decided to purchase the machine right away. AMCON commissioned the VOLUTE ES-201 in October 2018; using the same liquid based flocculant COEX88 by CHEM.ENGI. The whole sludge treatment process was optimized and in addition, the dairy invested in a new, modern aeration technology. This article was written to demonstrate that good results are to be easily achieved with a piece of professional advice and relatively low investment. |

From Japan to Czechia to Dewater Sludge |
|
| You, Sean, work in a very specific field. Did you always want to work in wastewater and sludge treatment industry? Interesting question. As a kid I did not enjoy science course at all. |
|
|
Nowadays, this field has become an important part of my job as I had to reach a particular level of chemistry knowledge regarding wastewater/ sludge treatment. The answer to your question is no. On the other hand, I always knew I wanted to do some extraordinary business which this industry indeed is.What kind of special skills does it take to be successful in this particular industry? There are two crucial skills I would like to point out. First, the theoretical knowledge of wastewater and its proper treatment, and secondly, and more importantly you master this kind of business by gaining experience. Another very important fact is to be aware of your customers’ needs in order to provide them with the best product and service that will meet or exceed their expectation. Nowadays, you work in AMCON Europe s.r.o. located in Prague, Czechia. How did it change your life style? As I have a multinational background myself; it was not hard for me to adjust to a different culture in a European country. One thing I had to get used to – surprisingly quickly – was multinational working environment as in Japan all my colleagues were Japanese only. An obstacle I had to overcome was a Czech winter. Winters here are so much colder than in Japan that I had to go shopping for a new winter clothes my first winter here. What part of your job do you like best? The moment a project has been finished and I have a feeling we have done a good job and this feeling is later on confirmed by our customers’ satisfaction. The questions were answered by Sean Wright Senior Business Development Manager, AMCON Europe s.r.o. |
